After years of build up and weeks of speculation, the news has been confirmed Veronica Mars is returning – again for a new season.

The series, which will see the return of Kristen Bell as the title character, will consist of 8 episodes and is slated to debut in 2019. Bell made the official announcement Thursday on Instagram. News of the revival first broke in August.

As part of the deal, Hulu has also struck an agreement with Warner Bros. for the SVOD rights to all past episodes of the original series.

Seasons 1-3, as well as the 2014 feature film, will be available to stream next summer.

Series creator Rob Thomas is penning the first episode of the revival. He will executive-produce alongside returning vets Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Dan Etheridge.

In the new installment, spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry.

After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into a mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

Kristen Bell confirmed the news Thursday with a video message on Instagram.

Created by Thomas, Veronica Mars was a critical darling and developed a devoted following during its three-season run from 2004-2007 on UPN and then on the CW.

Fueled by fan support, a successful Kickstarter campaign for a movie sequel launched in 2013 by Thomas and Bell raised $3.7 million in a matter of hours.

The film, toplined by Bell and featuring a number of other original cast members, was released by Warner Bros in 2014.

The same year, Play It Again, Dick, a Veronica Mars digital spinoff series from Thomas, premiered on the CW’s Seed platform.

It featured series co-star Ryan Hansen attempting to put together a Dick Casablancas-centered spinoff of Veronica Mars.

Hulu is the second streaming service to pursue a limited series revival of a beloved CW series. Netflix recently brought back Gilmore Girls for four follow-up movies, also from the original creator and featuring the original stars and also produced by Warner Horizon.

Loki

Disney is on the verge of unleashing their streaming service. And to do so they want to start with a bang. This is why the monumental company will be preparing a few tv series based on some the most recognized characters from de MCU.

The reports details that since the Avengers have gotten their own movies (like Iron Man and Captain America) they will not be featured in the series. The focus will be shifting towards characters who have served as second tier characters in the MCU.

According to Variety, Disney is in early development of an ambitious plan for a number of limited series. These series will likely include shows focused on Loki and the Scarlet Witch. Other beloved superheroes who have yet to appear in their own standalone movies will follow.

Right off the bat one of the burning questions is if the actors that portrayed them on the big screen will be on these series. The answer so far is yes. Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising their roles of Loki and Scarlet Witch.

Scarlett Witch

Scarlet Witch will be another familiar face that will get her own t.v. series.

Details on how these series will unfold have not been mentioned but each series is expected to include six to eight episodes.

On the streaming service, the company has kept the details of the service close to the chest. The only thing that they’ve been very vocal about is that it will likely cost less than Netflix. This will probably be an introductory price as they’ll rise slowly.

The launch date will be at some point in late 2019.

Marvel Studios will produce all the shows. Also, Kevin Feige, the head studios mastermind, is expected to be hands-on on the development.

ABC is working on a comedy inspired by Crazy Rich Asians

ABC is looking to ride the Crazy Rich Asians wave of success.

Crazy Rich Asians

ABC is looking to ride the Crazy Rich Asians wave of success.

Thanks to the massive hit film Crazy Rich Asians, ABC is trying to ‘get a piece of that pie’. The network is looking to make a comedy series based on the recent romantic comedy. The hit film is based on the book by the same name.

ABC has handed out a script-plus-penalty commitment for an untitled comedy from writer Jessica Gao. This writer recently took home the best animated program Emmy for writing the “Pickle Rick” episode of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.

According to the report the show will be a single camera one. It was pitched with the title Lazy Rich Asians and revolves around Janet Zhao. She is a first-generation Chinese-American woman who struggles to set healthy boundaries with her crazy, exhausting family.

When her wealthy grandmother dies and names Janet the sole inheritor, she suddenly finds herself the unwilling new matriarch of the family. The same relatives she’s spent her life trying to keep at a distance.

“There are [Asian-centric] projects in development right now, but they’re not going to greenlight these things unless our movie does well. If our movie does well, four projects will go into production or at least get greenlighted within three weeks. If it doesn’t, they’re going to be in unknown states, and that’s scary,” said Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu in an intreview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Crazy Rich Asians

The t.v. project comes thanks to the success that the film itself has in a matter of weeks.

Crazy Rich Asians has done more than well.

The order for the comedy comes as Crazy Rich Asians has defied box-office expectations. The rom-com has grossed more than $164.3 million worldwide (with $135.8 million of that domestically). The budget for the movie was $30 million.

Gao will pen the script and executive produce the CBS Television Studios and Imagine TV effort. She will do so alongside the latter company’s Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Samie Kim Falvey.

The is no word yet for when the project could see the light of day.
