8o’s kids, rejoice!

Dynamite Comics announced that the iconic kids character Rainbow Brite will be making a comeback. The publisher will be teaming up with Hallmark to produce a series that will not only be directed to kids.

According to the publisher itself the new Rainbow Brite series will be also an event that adults would be also able to enjoy.

The world known publisher provided a press release in which offers us a story description:

“In the story, the main character, Wisp and Willow are best friends who live in a small town. They are inseparable, until one night Wisp discovers something is stealing the color from the world. To escape their grasp, Wisp must use her wits and the help of a new friend…from somewhere else! Then the adventure begins”

The comic will brought to life by writer Jeremy Whitley (My Little Pony, Unstoppable Wasp) and artist Brittney Williams (Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!, Goldie Vance). The first one mentioned this in a statement:

“Rainbow Brite captured the imaginations of kids born in the ’80s (like myself) as a fantasy heroine. One who could change the world not just through magic, but through kindness. She is a symbol of what can happen when we all work together and fight back against the shadows that want to drain all of the color from the world. The world needs a young hero clad in a rainbow now more than ever in a world where things are often simplified into black and white and it’s easy for people to turn their back on people not like them.”

In addition, Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment had this to say of the new installment of the colorful and small heroine:

“We’re very excited to release this series for younger readers. Rainbow Brite has some history in comics, so we’re pleased to bring her back to print with Jeremy’s story which fans of all ages will love.”

Rainbow Brite first debuted on the small screen as an animated television series that aired in 1984. The same year Hallmark licensed Rainbow Brite to Mattel for numerous dolls and merchandise

Although no exact data was provided but Rainbow Brite #1 will be released in October of this year.
